What can be done about the new military service?

Solidarity event organized by trade unions, social movements, and striking students

2.3. | 18:00

On 5th of December 2025, the German Federal Parliament (“Bundestag”) passed the new military service law. In the future, young people will be required to undergo physical fitness tests and be asked about their willingness to perform military service. If not enough volunteers can be found, there is talk of conscripting them against their will. On 5th of December, however, 1500 students in Jena went on strike and protested against the new military service.

We want to come together and discuss what we can all do against the new military service and how we can support young people. Speakers will include:
• a total conscientious objector from Jena during the GDR era,
• an education unionist,
• striking students,
• activists against militarization.

The panel discussion will be followed by a joint discussion. Afterwards, we invite you to stay for a drink and continue the conversation.
