This workshop aims to provide a practical introduction to some fundamental concepts of stage lighting, based on the understanding of lighting as a theatrical language, and explores the possibilities for communication through its relationship with other scenic elements. The workshop does not require prior experience in the subject and is open to anyone interested in the topic, including students and professionals in the theater field.
Francisco Turbiani is a stage lighting designer based in São Paulo, Brazil. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts with a concentration in theater directing from the University of São Paulo. He also holds a master’s and a doctorate in the arts, with a theses on the creative process of stage lighting from the same institution. In the theater field, he has worked with various directors and theater groups from São Paulo, Brazil. He has been the lighting designer for the Passion Play in Santana de Parnaíba since 2022. In music, he has worked on lighting for artists such as Mariene de Castro, Titãs, Sergio Britto, among others. He is a professor of stage lighting at SP Escola Superior de Teatro and in the graduate program at Centro Universitário Belas Artes. He also has experience with opera, dance, and corporate events.
